Ventured out on the Golden Touch this Sunday for some Blackfish. As most of you know it was very windy and cold. We gave it a shot anyway thinking it wouldn't be too bad but the 2-4 were 3-5 and it was like fishing in a washing machine out there.
It was difficult to stand and feel the bites at times with the chop and ice. One veteran Black fisherman did not attempt to fish. We headed in early and that was probably the right call.
I managed 2 nice keepers and my son never wet a line as he was not feeling well after we got underway. Tony Cav had a nice keeper and had a few good bites. Ron who we fished with as well had a keeper. Nice to meet Frankie and Ron. Hopefully we will fish together again under better conditions! Also...Tony donated his nice keeper so Ron and I wound up with 2 each to take home.
Well, like I said on the boat...I enjoyed myself anyway and caught a few fish.
We had a great breakfast as usual and was offered luch at the dock prepared by the two Franks.
Thanks for making the effort Capt John and Frankie

Golden Touch, Limit Blackfish 01/08/12

Golden Touch, Limit Blackfish
From Howard's report... on NJFISHING.COM. I can't brag about myself!! LOL
I joined Leif, Suzanne, Ralph, Ron and Julian on the Golden Touch with JC and Frankie.
Arrived to see LAB dropping off some really nice white leggers and hoping that he was fishing with us for the day but was gone in 2 seoconds.
Frank made his usual great breakfast on the way to the tog spot. I started the day boxing the first keeper of the day. The bite was scratchy for the rest of us execpt Leif was a machine. He ended the day with the following:
The first
The largest
The most, catching 12-15 keepers while only retaining his 4 limit
A great day out fishing and a pleasure meeting the rest of the crew. Frankie made a great paella style lunch as well. Another great day on the GT.

Deal Surf Report 11/19 We got 'em!
I didn't fish the surf this morning because Leif and I hit the Fly Fishing Symposium in Somerset today.
We did get to fish this evening in the Deal surf from 4:30 to 6:00pm.
Snapper head was already fishing when Leif and I arrived. He was fishing a AVA 17 and working the stretch.
We started with AVA's as well, and Ben hooked up shortly after we got there. He lost that fish and said he saw sand eels just as the fish hit. I had one on briefly.
As it got dark we switched to bombers and managed one fish that was 27 1/2 inches on a school bus bomber.
After fishing we stopped off for burgers and talked about our outing. Not a bad way to spend a nice Fall evening.

Golden Touch 11/16 Awesome Blackfish report!!
Fished on the Golden Touch today with Howie, Tropics, Jon Devin, Brian and Allen today for the "Blackfish Opener" As always a great time and good fishing, not to mention many laughs. It is alway a pleasure fishing with this group and boat.
Breakfast on the way out, lunch served...Shrimp and Spanish Rice ect... Frankie is on the money.
Any way the boat landed 29 keepers, Richie had a 9 and I had a 10 pounder(see photo) and we had pretty good weather.
Great fishing with you guys and thanks to Captain John Cole and Frankie for making the extra effort.
Can't wait till next time.. Again, great to see every one and nice meeting and talking to you Allen.
P.S. Almost droped another rod in the drink! Caught it in mid air and landed the fish! Wish I had the video..

Deal Surf Report! 10/28 Soup Fish!!!!
Hit the Deal surf after work tonight. Hoping to get one before the storm, I fished from 5:30-8:00. This time I worked school bus bombers and black bombers. I asked my son to go, but he opted to stay home and skate board....
Well the fish were there. I had one right away on the school bus, a short but nice to get one. As it got dark I decided to work the beach and ditch the korkers and rain gear.
Next fish was a 25 incher on the black bomber off the beach not far from where I was. I continued to work the stretch and on the way back north I hooked up with what I thought was another short. It hit right in the wash and when the wave took it back out it took off. Figured I had a decent fish and it was a 30 in keeper. Took a few more casts and had a nice fluke.
Nice to get a keeper for the chowder. Hope to get a few more.

Deal Surf Report 10/6 GOT 'EM ON A FLY!
Fished the Deal surf today from 6:00am-7:10am with Adam D'Onofrio. I fished the fly rod and white snake fly again.
Upon arriving I noticed the surf had a little more white water today and decided to work the corner of the jetty from the beach. I saw some mullet and a few swirls right away in the corner. After two casts I had one on and landed that fish. It was short(around 23 inches but a nice way to start the day.
As it got light the activity seemed to subside and I went home to get ready for the tuna trip tonight.

Deal Surf Report 9/20/11
Fished the Deal surf today before work from 5:30-7:00. I used the fly rod and fished right off the beach. Since the mullet are around I used a snake fly.
The low tide, rolling surf, and weed made it tough fishing but I was glad to get out and fish for a while. I saw one small fish in the wash and had no other hits.
Next week should be good. The fish are here. Go get 'em!

Golden Touch 8/23 (Leif's B Day Fluke report)
Golden Touch 8/23 (Leif's B Day Fluke report)
When I asked Leif what he wanted to do for his birthday it didn't take long for him to answer. He wanted to go on the Golden Touch for Fluke with his friend Snapperhead/Ben.
I agreed it was a good choice. Good friend Ken/TinSquid joined us and it was a beatiful day.
Snapper was the hot hand with the Giant Sea Bass and Six Fluke!
Breakfast was served, everyone had keepers, and the weather was great. What more can you ask for?? Capt. John and Frankie are the best and know what they are doing!
We wound up with around 19 keeper fluke and a handful of seabass.
A good time was had by all!

Golden Touch Fluke 7/1
I fished on the Golden Touch out of Point Pleasant with Capt. Cole for fluke on Friday. It was an open boat trip and the line up was myself, son Leif, good friend Bill, and three other fisherman, Carl, Dave and Ryan. We left the dock at 6:00am and headed north to fish the rough bottom off Long Branch and Monmouth Beach. We were busy all day catching many Fluke and a few Sea Bass. Ryan was high hook with the keepers, getting his limit on 8" cod grubs. My son Leif had many short Fluke and two nice keeper Sea Bass on his "Denali and Battle" spinning combo. Bill had four nice keepers and I had two and countless shorts. Everyone caught lots of fish and a good time was had by all.

Catskill Father and Son Trout Trip 6/2-6/4
My son Leif and I spent a few days in East Branch and fished the East Branch and Beaverkill. We fished Thursday night, Friday, Saturday and a little on Sunday morning. 6/2-6/4. We wound up with 3 Rainbows to 14 inches and 4 Browns to 19 inches. All fish were caught on March Browns. We enjoyed catching and releasing those beautiful fish. Leif has become quite a caster and I am proud of him. It is not easy casting for hours on end but it paid off for him with a couple nice rainbows and a brown.
A special thank you to Catskill flies for being so nice to me and my son. My son and I picked out some nice Collins capes so we could do some tying and Dennis and Ellen took care of us. Thanks for everything. Leif will enjoy using those bass flies in NJ and has a great example of the Conover fly so he can tie his own with the materials he bought.
