Leif and Bill's "Paramount Ling Adventure"

I headed out on the Paramount Wednesday on the 6:30am-3:30pm with Bill Malcolm of Midland Park for the deep water ling special. Bill was off and it didn't take much to convince me. (Just the wife)

It was about a two hour ride to the spot in flat seas.
We started nailing them right away using the "Glow Squid" High Low triple hook rig. Double headers and big fat ling to boot.
Not too far in the trip I dropped my custom 7ft bottom rod I build along with the Penn accurate conversion. Don't ask me what happened.... just slippery hands and a little arm spasm and down it goes to Davey Jones and the ling Gods.
We combined for 35big ling between us for the day. It was a full boat and appeared that most anglers had some fish. No dogfish and a few ocean pout were caught but the current was strong and that made it difficult to anchor and remain on the fish at times.

Gambler 7/24 Flying Fluke and Sea Bass!

Saturday Leif and I went fishing on the Gambler with Ben Green and his dad Tony Green. It was the half day Fluke Sea Bass trip from 8-12:30.

As expected, we had a good time. The boys fished for an hour before the boat left and caught 3-4 Fluke each. one was 17 1/2 inches. (See flying Fluke photo) FIRST PHOTO.....NOT A PHOTO SHOP!!!
It was hot but as Capt. Bob alternated drifts, we enjoyed the "Shady side" when it came our turn. A little to hot for this Norseman....

In any event we wound up with a decent catch. I guess in total we caught about 20 fish between the 4 of us and had 4 keeper seabass and 3 keeper Fluke up to 21 inches. Ben just missed the pool with his personal best 21incher. We were bucktailing most of the time but a few fish were caught dragging bait.
Leif did a really nice job filleting the fish. Nice to have him take care of the fish now.

Deal surf 7/4 night surf report

Deal surf 7/4 night surf report

Fished the Deal surf on the Fourth of July with son Leif and Bill Malcolm. We fished from 8-12pm and soaked worms, soft crabs and clams.
We saw the fireworks, and caught lots of smooth dogfish, spider crabs and a few species of skate.
None of the desirable species but as usual, many laughs and a relaxing time on the sand.
