Golden Touch Friday 12/17 Blackfish Report

Got on the Golden Touch last minute on Friday. Thanks for calling Capt.Cole.

Fished with Jon Devin, Susan and three other good blackfisherman Art, John and Joe. Nice to meet you guys.
I had three keepers quickly but I took the rest of the day to scratch out a limit. Jon had a nice fish that was his "PB". Looked to be around 8 or 9 pounds. Jon has some pictures of him hugging that one.

"Susan" hammered them and had some nice sized fish through out the day.

Every time she caught a fish she laughed until it hit the deck. Great to see her enjoy catching those fish so much.
We wound up with the limit for the entire boat plus.
Had a great time as usual. Mate Scott was great and made the trip a pleasure and John's breakfast was on the money.

Deal Surf 12/11 Night Bite

Fished the Deal surf this evening from 9:30pm-11:00pm. I was there earlier on low tide but decided to go back when there was a little more water to fish in.
I got one small fish around 20 inches on the black and purple bomber,

One hit one fish and that was it.
"I'll fish until my fingers fall off"

Deal Surf Report 12/10 Fat Bass/Half Tail

Fished the Deal surf again today from 6-7am again. I worked the black and purple bomber with teaser in the wash and nailed a really fat 23 incher on the black bomber in the dark. She had half the tail missing, just the top fork remained.
I did see some herring flipping around but no fish swirling. It was 20 degrees but didn't feel like it because there was hardly any wind.

Once in a while you get a few minutes before the sun comes up where the sky looks spectacular. This was one of those mornings.

Great to get out and get one.

Deal Surf Report. Banner Evening!!! 4 fish

I fished the Deal surf today from 4:00pm-5:15pm. It was a beautiful evening.
Upon arriving I decided to take a cast off the jetty at Phillips/Connover Ave.
First cast...Fish on. A nice fat 24 incher that took a black and purple bomber. Third cast...another fish on the bomber as well.
It was tough getting them up over the rocks so I moved to the beach and got two more fish. One on the bomber and one on the teaser. One was really fat.The fish were feeding in the wash on small baitfish but most hit the bomber reeled slow. They were swirling in the surf right at my feet.
It was nice to get a few and be out in the cold weather.

Deal Surf weekend Report. "End to a nice weekend"

Had some action in the Deal surf this weekend.
I love this time of year, cold weather, bass in the wash, sandeels...You never know what can happen.... I like getting up early catching a fish or two, do a little work around the house, watch a game and head back down before diner.

That's what I did this weekend and while the fishing wasn't great, it was nice to get a few and fish with Tony and Ben.

I got another short tonight on a black bomber and fished with Snapper in the wash till it got dark. That kid likes to fish and reminds me of myself when I was a kid.(Never wants to leave and stop fishing) As we were leaving he says, "I like being out here in the cold.... feels good. Good end to the weekend" Classic! Now that's a fisherman.

No one else around and a few fish swirling and boiling on the plugs.
Anyway I got home and made myself a Mackerel diner and reflected on the weekend. Not bad as far as I am concerned...

Deal Surf Report. 12/4 Malfunction Day!

Met Tony and Ben in Deal today. We fished from the surf from 6am-8am and tossed Yozuri Crystal Minnows, AVA's and Bombers.

We had some action in the dark as Ben got a 20incher in a teaser. I had one on shortly after that but a frozen drag caused the fish to tear off the hooks in the wash.

Ben then got his braid tangled and in the process dropped his Crystal minnow in the wash, never to be seen again.

Tony's boots were filled with ice water and his feet were just as frozen as my fingers.

"A good time was had by all"

I did see a short caught shortly after sun up and there were som birds working and occasional swirls in the wash.

Deal surf eve. report 11/28 Got "em

Fished a Deal Jetty from 4-5:30pm today. Nice to get out before dinner and fish for a while. It was a nice evening. A little too nice as far as I am concerned. Very flat and calm.
Since it was so flat I worked a Yozuri crystal minnow really slow and had some action. I landed a nice 23 incher and had a few wraps off the Jetty in Deal.

Pretty quiet for this time of year but I was happy catching that fish. It was feisty and beautiful, real clean and "purple"

Should be a good December.

"Golden Touch Rule.....Tog limits 11/27 report

Fished on the Golden touch today with Tony AKA Foul hook and friends. Boat had 48 Keeper Blackfish despite windy conditions and tough anchoring on occasion,

I used my new Kevin Bogan Blackfish rod(nice lite powerful rod)) but was a little off my game with only 5 keepers and 2 billion shorts.

Tony made the meat balls, Frankie made the breakfast and New Blackfisherman Alex set new records for Biggest and most Tog caught. Just unbelievable, Alex had about 9 keepers and most were nice size...biggest around 71/2 pounds.
Everyone caught keepers and a good time was had by all.

Nice to meet Bob, Chris. Mark and Alex. All good fisherman.

Thanks again Tony for asking me to join the trip. You make a great meatball.....

Deal Surf T-Day Bass!! 11/25/10

It was a beautiful morning at the Deal surf today. I met Tony Green and his son Ben at around 6:00am in Deal on this fine Thanksgiving morning.

We worked the stretch with an assortment of lures, needlefish, Yozuri crystal minnows and sand eel imitations with teasers.

Ben caught his Thanksgiving Striper on a Yozuri crystal minnow (black and silver) while it was still dark. It was a nice fat 21 incher.

Congratulations Ben! Great job as no other fish were caught in the area that I coud see.

I did not see any bait or fish in the wash. Very quite with the exception of Ben's bass. We will try again tomorrow.

Leif

Deal Surf Report 11/24

Fished a little south of my usual spot in Deal fron 6:00-7:30am or so. Used a Yellow and white bomber and then a Yozuri crystal minnow in green and yellow.
I fished from the surf.. I did see sand eels in the wash. They were being chased by sand dabs as it got light.
Birds were working off the jetties as I left. No hits no errors......
Nice to meet you Marty!! Good takling to you!
Hope to get one on T Day tomorrow..

Deal Surf "Casino" Jackpot!!!!Report 11/20

I fished the Deal surf today from 6-7:30am. I was hesitant to go because of the SW wind but I went anyway because I was up and Tony and Ben said they might be going as well.
I worked the stretch from Roosevelt Jetty down to the Casino. After slinging metal for an hour or so I decided to try a Yellow A-Salt Bomber and I nailed a 30 incher right in the wash in front of the Deal Casino around 7:30am.
It was nice to get a keeper and it made my day. Now I can make a nice batch of Striper chowder and and pan seared Striper fillet with taragon butter.

Opening Day Blackfish Report 11/16/10 "Golden Touch".

Fished on the Golden Touch with Howie, Billy, Eric, Brian Jon, Frankie and Capt. John Cole today for Blackfish.
We had a great day and limited out for the charter. I had my best day ever blackfishing with my limit plus and some of action on shorts. I also had a "pig" that broke me off. Fish up to around 8 pounds were caught. Billy had the big one.
It was great fishing with you guys.. Capt. Cole and Frankie are top notch as far as I am concerned. Great breakfast served, on the fish all day and nice boat to be on.
Everyone caught fish and went home with bags of fillets..A good time was had by all and the weather held out for us and the other Blackfish openers...

Thanks again Howie, Capt. Cole for a great day out, lots of fish great food and a great time. ..

Sea Tiger II Porgy Report. Great fishing!!

I headed out Saturday with good friend Bill and son Leif on the Sea Tiger II 1/2 day afternoon Porgy trip. Haven't been out on an actual Porgy trip in about 20 years so I was looking forward to it since the fishing has been so good this year. Last trip was the Jamaica II in 1990.

Anyway it was a great afternoon out. Leif fished ultra light and used the rigs we tied the day before, 2 and 3 hook rigs on 20lb triplefish with Gamakatsu hooks. They sure did the trick. Bill had suggested that those little sharp hooks would be the key and he was right. Bill and I fished the same rigs on conventional outfits.

We wound up with 40 Porgies in the cooler and had a great time. There were a few other species caught including some Blackfish and keeper size Sea Bass that were released.

The Sea Tiger was a great boat and Bill informed me that it was the old Big Marie S. The crew was great and it was a pleasure fishing on that Party Boat.

As always, it was great getting out with my son and Bill and we look forward to some great Porgy dinners. (Recipes to follow)

Sea Devil Tuna Report 10/10-10/11

I headed out on the Sea Devil for Tuna Sunday night with my son Leif and friend Adam. We had fun and it was good to get out for tuna once again. Pretty slow fishing but 9 tuna were landed (50-70lbs) and I had one of them. It was a 50lb Longfin I caught on a PB&J Jig on the new Calstar I built.

Leif (who jigged 6 last year) was a little disapointed that he did not get a repeat of last years trip but it was nice to have him along and he had fun catching all those squid for bait.
Thanks to Capt. Bob and Mates Mike, Mike and Chris. Mike....you got lucky with that "I only need one gaff Bob" HAHAHA. Thanks for all your help and Taking care of my boy. Thanks Capt. Bob for staying a little longer for the day bite.
Thanks also to the angler who donated one of his fish as everyone had the chance to take some steaks home.

Deal Surf Report 10/8 Fly Rod Bass!!

Deal Surf Report 10/8 Fly Rod Bass!!

Well it was another beautiful morning at the Deal surf today.
I fly fished with my friend Adam today in Deal from 6:15am to 7:45am. We hit the surf and started throwing White snake flies. Adam quickly switched over to a Chartreuse Half and Half (pictured) since he had no hits on the snake fly.
Shortly after he hooked and landed a 26 incher on that fly. I stuck with the snake fly and got "skunked"
We did see a lot of life today. Upon our arrival we saw a Black Bellied Plover, a Peregrine Falcon capturing a bird only to lose it to a persistent Gull.(Adam is an avid birder and alerted me to the event).
We also saw lots of bait in the wash and many pods of Bottle nose dolphins that were jumping and milling not too far from shore.

Leif and Bill's "Paramount Ling Adventure"

I headed out on the Paramount Wednesday on the 6:30am-3:30pm with Bill Malcolm of Midland Park for the deep water ling special. Bill was off and it didn't take much to convince me. (Just the wife)

It was about a two hour ride to the spot in flat seas.
We started nailing them right away using the "Glow Squid" High Low triple hook rig. Double headers and big fat ling to boot.
Not too far in the trip I dropped my custom 7ft bottom rod I build along with the Penn accurate conversion. Don't ask me what happened.... just slippery hands and a little arm spasm and down it goes to Davey Jones and the ling Gods.
We combined for 35big ling between us for the day. It was a full boat and appeared that most anglers had some fish. No dogfish and a few ocean pout were caught but the current was strong and that made it difficult to anchor and remain on the fish at times.

Gambler 7/24 Flying Fluke and Sea Bass!

Saturday Leif and I went fishing on the Gambler with Ben Green and his dad Tony Green. It was the half day Fluke Sea Bass trip from 8-12:30.

As expected, we had a good time. The boys fished for an hour before the boat left and caught 3-4 Fluke each. one was 17 1/2 inches. (See flying Fluke photo) FIRST PHOTO.....NOT A PHOTO SHOP!!!
It was hot but as Capt. Bob alternated drifts, we enjoyed the "Shady side" when it came our turn. A little to hot for this Norseman....

In any event we wound up with a decent catch. I guess in total we caught about 20 fish between the 4 of us and had 4 keeper seabass and 3 keeper Fluke up to 21 inches. Ben just missed the pool with his personal best 21incher. We were bucktailing most of the time but a few fish were caught dragging bait.
Leif did a really nice job filleting the fish. Nice to have him take care of the fish now.

Deal surf 7/4 night surf report

Deal surf 7/4 night surf report

Fished the Deal surf on the Fourth of July with son Leif and Bill Malcolm. We fished from 8-12pm and soaked worms, soft crabs and clams.
We saw the fireworks, and caught lots of smooth dogfish, spider crabs and a few species of skate.
None of the desirable species but as usual, many laughs and a relaxing time on the sand.

Golden Touch Fluke Report

Golden Touch Rules!! 6/25 Fluke

Jumped on the Golden Touch last minute with good friend Bill Malcom
We were welcomed by the crew and off we went. Nice day and a nice group of guys fishing on the boat including Tony.
Had a great breakfast before we started fishing....eggs, home fries, sausages.I managed quite a few fluke including 6 keepers up to 20 inches and a seabass. Bill even managed a couple keepers when he wasn't complaining, stuck in the rocks or untangling his rig. I believe we had 28 keepers all together. Most of the fish were caught bucktailing with teaser rigs.Nice weather great boat and crew coupled with a lot of action made for a great day out. Everone had fish and a good time was had by all.

Thanks Capt. Cole and Frank!

RFA CHARGES ENVIROS WITH USING OIL TO START A FIRE

RFA CHARGES ENVIROS WITH USING OIL TO START A FIRE

Fishermen Say It's Time For Preservationists To Put Up Or Shut Up

(6/30/2010) New Gretna, NJ - The New York Times is reporting at least one environmental non-governmental organization (ENGO) is using the tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico as a calling card for fisheries reform. The Center for Biological Diversity, a non-profit ENGO heavily supported by the oil-endowed Pew Charitable Trusts, is citing the Gulf oil spill as a reason why the U.S. Government should list bluefin tuna on the endangered species list.

The Center for Biological Diversity filed a request under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) in May demanding the government declare bluefin an endangered species. The ESA process typically takes several years, but with scientists actively looking at how the Deepwater Horizon tragedy could affect spawning bluefin in the Gulf, it's led to increased media opportunities for groups like Center for Biological Diversity which self-purportedly use "science, law and creative media to secure a future for all species, great or small, hovering on the brink of extinction."

Jim Donofrio, Executive Director of the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA), says using the Gulf tragedy to drum up support for anti-fishing measures may be creative, but it's also disingenuous. "An ESA listing on bluefin could be devastating for our recreational fishing community, our anglers know that and so do the ENGO's." Donofrio said as a rights-based organization RFA is wary about ESA designations due to the potential ramifications of incidental bycatch. "The ENGO's tried to get white marlin listed as endangered several years ago, which would've shut down many of the top offshore tournaments in America and could've led to more serious gear restrictions in our recreational sector," Donofrio said, explaining that the same high-speed trolling tactics employed by tuna trollers result in billfish hook-ups.

Donofrio pointed out ENGO's have already set a precedent in forcing anglers out of California's marine protected areas citing what they have called 'damaging effects of mortality associated with catch and release programs on long-lived fish populations.' "Bluefin are frequently found mixed with billfish and yellowfin on the offshore grounds, as well as striped bass in some of our inshore grounds like Cape Cod and along the Outer Banks," Donofrio said. "The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council just closed 5,000 square miles of South Atlantic waters to all bottomfishing to protect against snapper bycatch, so imagine what a pelagic ban could do."

The RFA agrees with leading scientists who believe it's virtually certain that eggs and larvae have been killed in the Gulf spill, which comes at the worst possible time of the year as spawning season for many Gulf fish stocks runs throughout the summer. But while the resource devastation will undoubtedly have some type of impact on bluefin and other stocks in the Gulf region, to use the spill has a reason to go for full-blown ESA listing is going too far, too fast, and without any scientific guidance.

"Right now there's no science to support such a measure, nor have I seen any literature that finds the oil will result in a spawning failure for bluefin or other pelagic species," said John Depersenaire, RFA's Fisheries Policy & Science Researcher. "Marlin and bluefin are longlived species that can get by with a couple years of very poor recruitment, so even if the 2010 year Gulf class is a complete failure it will not necessarily damage the overall health of the stock." Depersenaire pointed out that the current restrictions in the recreational bluefin fishery this season should already lead to the some of the lowest fishing mortality for bluefin on record, while adding "the spawning stock is already being protected."

For researchers like Depersenaire who have followed the plight of the bluefin stock for years, there is a relatively simple answer to the bluefin conservation question, but it requires an end to the rhetoric and a State Department willing to protect American interests. "The U.S. is already protecting the spawning stock, it's time all other ICCAT contracting parties do the same; and if they don't, then impose trade sanctions," Depersenaire said. ICCAT is the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas, an inter-governmental fishery organization responsible for the conservation of tunas and tuna-like species in the Atlantic Ocean and adjacent seas.

"It's been well-established through ICCAT and our own State Department that the European Union (EU) has been overfishing their quotas for years, even subsidizing the expansion of their national bluefin tuna fleets," said Donofrio. "The EU keeps overfishing the stock, the Japanese keep buying up the illegal harvest, and here in the United States a well-financed environmental movement is punishing our American anglers." The RFA has openly lobbied for international trade sanctions against the EU for most of this decade, and the group believes it's time to pressure the Department of Commerce again for increased protection on behalf of America's fishing communities. "If these ENGO's really wish to protect bluefin, they should put up some of that oil money they've received in charitable contributions and help cure the disease as opposed to just treating the symptoms," Donofrio said.

In 2002, the RFA filed a petition for relief under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 asking then President G.W. Bush to take action against the EU for ICCAT noncompliance. The RFA argued that EU's disregard for quotas and management measures caused bluefin, blue marlin and white marlin stocks to seriously decline, resulting in injury to U.S. commerce. RFA's 301 petition received tremendous support from Congress, recreational and commercial fishing organizations, and environmentalists alike, and led to high-level assurances by the Department of Commerce under the Bush administration that the EU would be held to its international obligations.

Rich Ruais, executive director of the American Bluefin Tuna Association and Blue Water Fishermen's Association, called the 301 petition "an important and legitimate first step" towards getting the EU to begin complying with ICCAT. "Highly migratory species are truly shared resources and we cannot conserve and rebuild these stocks only on the backs of US recreational and commercial fishermen," he said at the time. A member of the Advisory Committee to the US ICCAT delegation, Ruais recently cited amendments to the Magnuson Stevens Act and the longstanding Marine Mammal Protection Act which require the Commerce Department to restrict import of fish products from countries that do not implement "similar or comparable conservation standards" to protect fish species.

"Congress has recognized the U.S. fisherman's world conservation leadership and demanded our fishermen not be disadvantaged in the marketplace," said Donofrio, adding "the conservation sacrifices of the U.S. fishing community should not squandered by other nations ruthlessly exploiting this highly migratory species." RFA believes much of the argument for securing global commitment to reigning in bluefin overharvest is the same today as in 2002, but setting the plan back in motion would require fiscal support. "What we need is for one of these ENGO's to step up and do the right thing by helping support a 301 petition," Depersenaire added. "With a 47% east west mixing rate, we certainly don't want the EU or Africa exceeding bluefin landings in light of the oil spill."

"We have a European oil company responsible for the worst environmental disaster in world history, dumping millions of barrels of oil into American waters, while European fleets are grossly overfishing their allotted quota on a stock that migrates from one side of the Atlantic to the other, so when are we going to see some real federal assistance," asked Donofrio. "The U.S State Department needs to do what's right and demand accountability for non-compliance of international fishing treaties through trade sanctions." Donofrio said. "ESA listings only punish law-abiding citizens back at home, not the international scofflaws," he added.

Catskill Trout report 5/5

Headed up to the Catskill area and fished parts of the Delaware, East branch and Beaver Kill. I arrived up in Callicon at noon on Wed. and met fellow fly fisherman Ken Maher for lunch. He was nice enough to ask me to come up and fish with him as he had accommodations for four days in the area. He had been fishing since 5:00am on the Big D and was ready for a bite and a break. After a trip to Roscoe for a couple of slices and at Raimondo's we stopped by the Orvis fly shop to BS and pick up a few things.

Fished the afternoon and evening and wound up with one 17 inch brown and another one about that size that didn't quite make it to the net.
The fish were feeding on caddis emergers and at times they looked like bone fish tailing as there were pods of them feeding.
The next morning we fished for about an hour and I caught one nice 16 inch rainbow on a cone head woolly bugger size 6. After that we had a nice breakfast at the Lodge Ken was staying at. Pancakes, fresh eggs, sausage, hot coffee and orange juice. At 9:00 I headed home to NJ more than happy.

Gloucester Cod Trip.

My son Leif and I took a trip to Gloucester MA. and fished the Tuna.com with a few njfishing.com members. Howie Allen of Point Pleasant put the trip together for us and we left the dock at 5:00am on Sunday. We all had our limit of cod by 9:30am and then tried for Haddock. Leif Francis also caught 3 nice haddock to 5lbs and Howie Allen had 7. The largest cod was caught by yours truly and was estimated at 20-25lbs. The fish averaged 7-10lbs. We also caught 21 Pollock to 20lbs. Leif Francis 13 had his first 2 Pollock ever as well as a double header Cod Pollock keeper combo. All fish were caught on 12-20oz jigs except the haddock and they were caught on clams. Only 2 dogfish were caught. A good time was had by all. Pictured from left to right are Eric, Howie, Leif F., Leif Eric, and Billy.

Miss Belmar Princess King Cod Block Island Report

Well the overall trip was a success with everyone going home with fish. I would estimate the average catch was 6-7 cod up to the pool winner that was around 18lbs. Most of the fish were "keeper size" to 8lbs.

I was very happy with our catch of 12 keeper cod. Both Leif and Ben had some nice cod, a couple were over 29-30 inches.
It was tough fishing in the morning but as the day progressed we caught more and more. If you kept at is as most anglers did, you put together a good catch. Some guys had 10-12 or more keepers.
Captain Jimmy stayed out later to take advantage of the late bite and we got in around 11:30pm as we hugged the shoreline to avoid a rough ride home with the strong NW wind.

GREAT FOOD, GREAT FRIENDS AND A GREAT CREW.

Great to see and meet everyone. Just an awesome bunch. The nice thing was, there was quite a few NJFISHING Guys on the boat and also a few who haven't fished or caught Cod before. It was a pleasure meeting everyone.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION TO SNAPPERBLUEFISH WHO NEVER STOPPED FISHING AND GOT 6 KEEPER COD. AWESOME JOB BEN!

Good Mackerel fishing, Cod, Blackfish And Ling Caught

Mackerel fishing was good again on Wednesday and if the weather holds out should continue this week.
Thursday, the Miss Belmar Princess  had a very good drift right off the gate with multple stringers coming over the rail. This action lasted for an hour. They searched around after that a little, found an area of them again and banged away. Fishing yesterday wasnt the FULL massacre we had the day before , but it was above average for what this season has been. On Sat. the forecast looks favorable 15-20 NW 2-4.
SAILING DAILY FOR MACKEREL @ 7:30 AM..
ANY QUESTION CALL 732-681-6866

The Gambler from Point Pleasant reported a mixed bag on their Wednesday Southern Blackfish trip. Most anglers had a nice variety of Blackfish, Ling and Cod. Check their schedule as they have a great schedule for the winter targeting blackfish, cod, mackerel and ling.

http://www.gamblerfishing.net/ (732) 295-7569

Codfishing slowed out of Montauk this week but should improve after the full moon. Fishing should be good by mid week as concentrations of the codfish are still in the area off Block Island. Be prepared with jigs and baits as some days they are feeding on the herring in the area.

Miss Belmar Princess Report " The Big Mack Express " Thundering Herd

Well folks today it it finally happened the day I've at least been waiting for. Left the inlet and looked a little on the west side crossed to the east side and there it was the MOTHER of all MACKEREL READING spun the boat around and landed on them we pulled them for a few minutes the drift was quick and we lost them as we came up the bank. We moved the boat back onto the bank and this time I ANCHORED we landed right on top of THE MACKS and we pulled the for 45 minutes. First time I anchored in 6 years for them so that tells ya the volume we read. After this we drited a little here and tried anchoring one more time unsuccessfully . 11:30 I made a shift to the east read them again and we PULLED ALL SIZES OF MACKEREL for over 2 hours. COOLERS , BARRELS , BASKETS and BAGS FULL in by 3:30 today!!! Let's hope this keeps up. The proccessors were actually pushing into the NORTHWEST. Maybe we will find them closer tommorrow. We will see. It was also good to see HUMPBACKS, FINBACK WHALES & PORPOISES feeding on all this life. Hopefully this will continue . Come and get em while there here!!!

Capt. Jimmy Miss Belmar Princess Update. Cod and Mackerel

Well folks friday we had good MACKEREL fishing when the weather settled down, Saturday we had a sprikle of MACKEREL in the morning when the weather was nasty and then the rest of the day was slow. Sunday we did lots of looking around only to find them practically in our backyard. 2 or 3 drifts in the afternoon produced hot action for the MACKEREL staying only 30-50ft under the boat for 3 hours of HEAVY pulling for those who worked at it. Don't write the MACKEREL season off yet !!!! This has been a unpredictable season with these fish somedays hanging mid water rather than on the bottom where we are used to having them. .

WE WILL CONTINUE TO SAIL DAILY FOR MACKEREL @ 7:30 AM

Mackerel/Cod update 1/22/10

Mackerel fishing was slow yesterday out of Belmar, NJ. Captain Jimmy Elliott reported Comercial Processing Ships in the area he was fishing. Even so most anglers had some Mackerel. He said the mackerel should regroup and the mackerel fishing is not over. The Miss Belmar Princess will be sailing daily at 7:30am for the mackerel.

Codfishing remains very good out of Montauk and R.I. The cod are building up off Block Island and limit catches have been reported.

****Please don't waste the codfish*****Some of the fish over the past few years have had "worms" in the flesh.  These are common and are harmless to humans when cooked properly or frozen. They can also be easily removed by shining a light through the fillet and  removing them with a sharp pointy knife. If this still bothers you, e-mail me and I will take them. Here is a link regarding the cod worm.
