Deal Surf Report 11/19 We got 'em!

I didn't fish the surf this morning because Leif and I hit the Fly Fishing Symposium in Somerset today.
We did get to fish this evening in the Deal surf from 4:30 to 6:00pm.
Snapper head was already fishing when Leif and I arrived. He was fishing a AVA 17 and working the stretch.
We started with AVA's as well, and Ben hooked up shortly after we got there. He lost that fish and said he saw sand eels just as the fish hit. I had one on briefly.
As it got dark we switched to bombers and managed one fish that was 27 1/2 inches on a school bus bomber.
After fishing we stopped off for burgers and talked about our outing. Not a bad way to spend a nice Fall evening.

Golden Touch 11/16 Awesome Blackfish report!!

Fished on the Golden Touch today with Howie, Tropics, Jon Devin, Brian and Allen today for the "Blackfish Opener" As always a great time and good fishing, not to mention many laughs. It is alway a pleasure fishing with this group and boat.
Breakfast on the way out, lunch served...Shrimp and Spanish Rice ect... Frankie is on the money.
Any way the boat landed 29 keepers, Richie had a 9 and I had a 10 pounder(see photo) and we had pretty good weather.
Great fishing with you guys and thanks to Captain John Cole and Frankie for making the extra effort.
Can't wait till next time.. Again, great to see every one and nice meeting and talking to you Allen.

P.S. Almost droped another rod in the drink! Caught it in mid air and landed the fish! Wish I had the video..

Deal Surf Report! 10/28 Soup Fish!!!!

Hit the Deal surf after work tonight. Hoping to get one before the storm, I fished from 5:30-8:00. This time I worked school bus bombers and black bombers. I asked my son to go, but he opted to stay home and skate board....

Well the fish were there. I had one right away on the school bus, a short but nice to get one. As it got dark I decided to work the beach and ditch the korkers and rain gear.

Next fish was a 25 incher on the black bomber off the beach not far from where I was. I continued to work the stretch and on the way back north I hooked up with what I thought was another short. It hit right in the wash and when the wave took it back out it took off. Figured I had a decent fish and it was a 30 in keeper. Took a few more casts and had a nice fluke.

Nice to get a keeper for the chowder. Hope to get a few more.

Deal Surf Report 10/6 GOT 'EM ON A FLY!

Fished the Deal surf today from 6:00am-7:10am with Adam D'Onofrio. I fished the fly rod and white snake fly again.

Upon arriving I noticed the surf had a little more white water today and decided to work the corner of the jetty from the beach. I saw some mullet and a few swirls right away in the corner. After two casts I had one on and landed that fish. It was short(around 23 inches but a nice way to start the day.

As it got light the activity seemed to subside and I went home to get ready for the tuna trip tonight.

Deal Surf Report 9/20/11

Fished the Deal surf today before work from 5:30-7:00. I used the fly rod and fished right off the beach. Since the mullet are around I used a snake fly.

The low tide, rolling surf, and weed made it tough fishing but I was glad to get out and fish for a while. I saw one small fish in the wash and had no other hits.

Next week should be good. The fish are here. Go get 'em!

Golden Touch 8/23 (Leif's B Day Fluke report)

Golden Touch 8/23 (Leif's B Day Fluke report)

When I asked Leif what he wanted to do for his birthday it didn't take long for him to answer. He wanted to go on the Golden Touch for Fluke with his friend Snapperhead/Ben.

I agreed it was a good choice. Good friend Ken/TinSquid joined us and it was a beatiful day.

Snapper was the hot hand with the Giant Sea Bass and Six Fluke!

Breakfast was served, everyone had keepers, and the weather was great. What more can you ask for?? Capt. John and Frankie are the best and know what they are doing!

We wound up with around 19 keeper fluke and a handful of seabass.

A good time was had by all!

Golden Touch Fluke 7/1

I fished on the Golden Touch out of Point Pleasant with Capt. Cole for fluke on Friday. It was an open boat trip and the line up was myself, son Leif, good friend Bill, and three other fisherman, Carl, Dave and Ryan. We left the dock at 6:00am and headed north to fish the rough bottom off Long Branch and Monmouth Beach. We were busy all day catching many Fluke and a few Sea Bass. Ryan was high hook with the keepers, getting his limit on 8" cod grubs. My son Leif had many short Fluke and two nice keeper Sea Bass on his "Denali and Battle" spinning combo. Bill had four nice keepers and I had two and countless shorts. Everyone caught lots of fish and a good time was had by all.

Catskill Father and Son Trout Trip 6/2-6/4

My son Leif and I spent a few days in East Branch and fished the East Branch and Beaverkill. We fished Thursday night, Friday, Saturday and a little on Sunday morning. 6/2-6/4. We wound up with 3 Rainbows to 14 inches and 4 Browns to 19 inches. All fish were caught on March Browns. We enjoyed catching and releasing those beautiful fish. Leif has become quite a caster and I am proud of him. It is not easy casting for hours on end but it paid off for him with a couple nice rainbows and a brown.

A special thank you to Catskill flies for being so nice to me and my son. My son and I picked out some nice Collins capes so we could do some tying and Dennis and Ellen took care of us. Thanks for everything. Leif will enjoy using those bass flies in NJ and has a great example of the Conover fly so he can tie his own with the materials he bought.

Gloucester Cod and Pollack Report May 1st

I fished with my son Leif for cod and pollack on the TUNA.COM out of Gloucester MA on Sunday.

We fished with a nice group of fisherman who were all members of NJFISHING.COM, Eric F, Eric J, Jon and Howie.
We had our limit of keeper cod and pollack at least two dozen pollack. We also had countless throw-back cod and many sculpin.
All fish were caught on jigs in the 9-14oz range with teasers attached. We drifted over pods of fish on Stellwagen bank. The fish ranged in size from 6-16lbs.
While everyone caught lots of fish, my son Leif seemed to have the hot hand and out-fished me this time, getting more than his limit of cod and nice double header pollack. It was nice to take the trip with my son.I enjoyed spending the time with him and watching him catch all those fish.

Deal Surf Report 4/21/11 Beautiful Morning

Hit the Whitehall Jetty in Deal today with my friend Adam . We fly fished the jetty for an hour an a half from 5:30am-7:30am with Magnum Deceivers and Half and Half flies.

The water was a little off color but there was a good rip on both sides of the jetty and if the fish were there we would have got them. It was a nice morning but a little early for that spot. Should be good soon.

Gloucester Cod Report 4/16

Fished the TUNA.COM out of Gloucester MA. Fished with good friend Adam, Howie, Chad, Joe, and Greg. We knew it was going to be windy and we were not disapointed. We left the dock at 5:30am and fished for a few hours in worsening conditions. We managed to put together a nice catch of 36 cod up to 15lbs for the six of us. All the fish were caught on jigs and teasers. We had a great dinner the night before we fished at the "Causeway". It was great to get out and fish with friends for the king of all fish....cod.

Gambler Sunday 3/13 Cod Report

I fished on the Gambler Sunday on the 7am-3pm Cod trip. My son Leif couldn't make this trip but his friend Ben Green of Wayside joined me after getting his parents OK. He is a good fisherman and self relient so I didn't mind at all. We had a nice "fishermans breakfast" on the way out and by 9:00am we were fishing. We had several codfish on jigs even before we were anchored but they were short fish. I landed a 4lb pollock on a jig and two keeper cod for the day. Ben Green was the "star" and had a 20lb cod on a teaser and 15lb pollock on clam. He was eeked out of the pool by a slightly longer fish of 25lbs. Most everyone had at least one cod and several shorts. A few ling were caught as well.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Had a nice day out on the Gambler. Fished on Sunday with Ben on the 6am-6pm cod trip.
Tommy had the grill fired up and within an hour we had our fishermans breakfast and it was great. Pork roll 2 eggs home fries with onions and really good hot coffee.

We six cod. Only one was a keeper and it was the pool winner. Ben had the big ling as well. Most of the guys fishing in the stern had a keeper some had two and some had none. It was a nice day for the end of February.

I even used my "lite" Blackfish stick to catch the small cod and it was fun.

Tried jigging on every stop but no takers...

Norma K III 3-9 Magic Cod and Ling 2/20

I fished on the Norma K III today on the 3-9 magic hours trip. It was good to get out in between this very windy weather.

I fished with Ben and his dad Tony. Leif is still on his hiatus.

There were also a few NJFISHING.COM MEMBERS including Eric, his son Chris and member Paul. We were also greeted by sponsor Steve Irwin.

We had a good afternoon and evening out. Ben was the ling snatcher tonight and wound up with seven nice sized ling. He was using a 2 hook rig with a lunker light. He also had a keeper Blackfish to top off his fine catch. His dad had some short cod and a ling. I wound up taking home 6 ling and two cod. I also caught one cod on a butterfly jig.

Nice to see Capt. Matt, Morgan and the crew. It was a pleasure speaking to everyone and fishing on the Norma K III again.

Gambler Cod Valentine's Eve Report 2/13/11

I headed out on the Gambler today for some Cod fishing. I fished with NJFISHING.COM members Ken Maher, Eric and Ryan Wood .
Cook Tom was firing up the grill first thing and those tasty "Fishermans breakfasts were being served.(I'm not bringing anymore food next time.) Tom has the food covered and it is good. Hot coffee and a hearty breakfast and lunch served up....can't beat it.
Keith was off today and Mike Bogan was getting the clams ready around 4:30am.

It was a little two hour ride out to the first spot and we were greeted by a pod of white sided dolphins. The first spot was slow so we moved on and the fishing got better. We picked at cod all day. Although there were a lot of short cod some keepers were caught as well.
I had 5 cod, two being keepers and Tin Squid had 2 keepers as well with several shorts. We caught a few of those fish on jigs as well. Most of the keepers were just keeper size to 6 lbs or so.
I saw several other anglers with 1, 2 or three cod and some ling.
