Fishing Update 1/18/10

Mackerel fishing was good on Saturday but slowed on Sunday due to weather and mackerel processing ships in the area. Capt. Jimmy Elliott of the Miss Belmar Princess, Belmar said fishing should resume as the mackerel re-group and the weather improves. He will be sailing everyday at 7:30 for the Macks.

Local and offshore wreck trips produced some cod, pollock, ling and porgies over the weekend. The Gambler and Voyager of  Point Pleasant  reported  decent catches over the weekend. Both boats are making regular trips to the offshore and inshore wrecks. This is my favorite type of fishing as you will catch cod, pollock, porgies and ling.
The Big Jamaica also reported good catches this past week on their offshore trips consisting of cod, pollock, porgies and ling.

Blackfishing in "deeper water" remains hit or miss depending on the weather but some bigger fish have been reported.
